A palisade consists of several elements attached to each other. Basically it is a privacy screen in small format. These mini fences vary in both the height and the width of the individual elements. The latter aspect is mainly determined by the material:

    • bamboo
    • plastic
    • wood
    • stone

    bamboo

The Bamboo Palisade is the prime example of this model. With a little skill, you can even tie the stalks together to form a low fence. Before doing this, shorten the rods to the desired length. A bamboo palisade gives your garden a Far Eastern flair.

    • Robust
    • Inexpensive
    disadvantage
    • No root barrier

    plastic

Plastic always works. The material has long since shed its bad reputation due to the artificial optics. Models with a stone or wood look now look deceptively real. Advantageously, plastic is extremely robust and available in all possible forms.

    wood

Wooden palisades consist of squared timber, which is mostly softwood. Their natural look suits any form of garden design. However, other types of wood are also conceivable. You can easily make your own palisade from the cuttings of fruit trees. To do this, dig a joint around the bed, pour in some concrete and then insert the stakes you cut to size. If you also drill small holes in the wood, insects will find shelter.

    stone

A stone palisade is considered particularly robust. Especially if you rely on high-quality granite, there is hardly any maintenance required. However, the weight of the material alone makes assembly difficult. In addition, a concrete foundation is usually necessary.

    Other purchase criteria

Not only price and appearance should play a role in the choice of material. Equally important is that your palisade serves its purpose.

    height

If you just want to prevent the lawn from growing into the bed, a small bed border made of low stones or plastic is sufficient. Larger plants, on the other hand, should be protected from spreading with a pasture fence.

    stability

The higher your border is, the more unstable it becomes. So that it does not tip over in strong winds, you should embed the border in concrete.

    Brands/ where to buy

You can find palisades in hardware stores as well as on Amazon. Buying online usually offers a larger selection of products and is sometimes even cheaper.

    equipment

In addition, you can impressively illuminate your bed. You can get palisades in stores with integrated LED lighting. The spotlights are inconspicuous during the day, but create an impressive look in the dark.
