Nothing is more annoying than a rose arch that has been toppled in the wind and is full of greenery. For subsequent attachment, the climbing plants must be cut back radically. With a foundation you prevent such events.

time
Firm anchoring in the ground is important so that the climbing frame can withstand wind and weather. The foliage of the climbing plants develops into a sail, so that high forces act on the construct during a storm. Place the spot foundations on a windless day, as a gust of wind can throw the arch off balance in the damp concrete.
set foundation
Assemble the rose arch and place it at the desired location. Use sticks to mark the places where the feet will stand later. Two point foundations are erected on each side to ensure a stable footing. PVC pipes with a length of 50 and a diameter of 20 centimeters serve as formwork.
Method:
- Dig holes 50 to 55 centimeters deep
- Place formwork tubes centrally in each pit
- Align the bend with the feet in the tubes so that it stands straight
- Pour the mixed ready-mixed concrete into the formwork and smooth it out with a trowel
- Fix the rose arch with wooden slats
The installation procedure differs depending on the model. There are rose arches whose feet have a metal flange. These are anchored to the foundation with galvanized steel screws. Other variants have cross braces between the round arches, in which there are pre-drilled holes. You stabilize this with about 25 centimeter long threaded rods in the concrete, which are inserted through the holes and screwed tight with nuts.
tips
You can build a rose arch yourself. Wooden structures look more rustic and natural. To connect these climbing aids to the foundation, you should use a metal post shoe with a steel anchor.
planting
After the concrete has hardened, remove the wooden supports. The spot foundations can be hidden under gravel or soil. Now you can plant the rose arch. Depending on the size and choice of plants, there is space for one or two climbing plants on each side. Climbing roses and clematis are very popular. A combination of ivy and morning glory looks attractive and playful. Ice plants and nasturtiums provide edible flowers.
