This high-quality special fertilizer from the manufacturer Green24 contains everything bamboo needs. The product is also suitable for fertilizing other grasses. It is a fertilizer concentrate that needs to be diluted. Depending on the recommended dosage, a 250 milliliter bottle is sufficient for 60 to 125 liters of ready-mixed liquid fertilizer. The nutrients contained are immediately available to the bamboo plants, but the fertilizer has no long-term effect and must therefore be administered regularly. The fertilizer period recommended by the manufacturer is between April and August / September. Not only can you fertilize bamboo planted in the garden with this product, but also potted specimens or plants that are only cultivated in water. In addition to root fertilization, foliar fertilization is also possible.

With this long-term fertilizer from the brand manufacturer Compo, you only need to fertilize your bamboo plants once a season - due to the three-month long-term effect, one dose in spring is usually sufficient - ideally at the beginning of budding in April. The synthetic fertilizer contains a very high proportion of nitrogen, which is the most important nutrient for the fast and strong growing bamboo. Phosphorus, in turn, is relevant for the development of the roots, which have to keep up with the growth of the stems. Potassium in turn strengthens the leaf, iron and magnesium ensure a strong, healthy leaf colour. Furthermore, silicon is added to the product, which is intended to promote the growth and development of young and freshly planted bamboos in particular. The majority of Amazon customers rate the fertilizer as very good, effective and easy to use, but the small quantity and the comparatively high price are also criticized.

Anyone who values an organically effective long-term fertilizer is well advised to use this product. Here the nutrients are bound to a clay-humus complex, are gradually released to the plants and also improve the soil structure and thus soil fertility in the long term. Instead of the nutrients being immediately available to the bamboo (and a large part of them seeping away unused in the soil), the plants can permanently fall back on a supply stored in the clay granules and are thus supplied evenly. The Toolisan bamboo fertilizer is effective for up to three months and can also be used in water protection areas.

Purchase Criteria

fertilizer type

mineral fertilizer: The great advantage of mineral fertilizers is that the nutrients they contain are immediately available to the plants. However, this also hides a major disadvantage, because what is not used immediately seeps into the ground and ultimately ends up in the groundwater. In addition, mineral fertilizers are synthetically produced, so they have no positive influence on soil life and can even hinder the natural formation of humus.

Organic Fertilizer: Organic fertilizers do not have these disadvantages, because the nutrients contained in compost, manure and other organic substances are gradually released through the decomposition process, so that these fertilizers result in a natural slow-release fertiliser. The only problem is that the ingredients are not immediately available to plants.

Organic mineral fertilizer: Organic-mineral fertilizers combine the advantages of both types of fertilizers mentioned above, so that the bamboo plants can have both immediately effective and gradually released nutrients and are thus supplied evenly.

fertilizer form

liquid fertilizer: Liquid fertilizers are usually concentrates that are first diluted with the irrigation water and then applied. Many liquid bamboo fertilizers can be used both as root and foliar fertilizer, with the latter being particularly useful for specimens cultivated in water or hydroponics. Liquid fertilizers usually have no long-term effect.

solid fertilizers: Solid fertilizers in granular or bead form are easy and versatile to use. You can put it in the planting hole when planting the bamboo, put it on the root area when fertilizing established plants and work it lightly into the soil, or you can dissolve it in water and water the bamboo plants with it.

ingredients

Many bamboo fertilizers are synthetic, i. H. artificially produced and precisely composed nutrient compounds. Fertilizers with organic components, on the other hand, need high levels of starting materials with a high nitrogen content. Seabird guano (€121.99) or stable manure meets these requirements, although some manufacturers also use waste products from the food, luxury food and animal feed industries. There is nothing fundamentally reprehensible about this, but animal substances such as bone, hair and feather meal can also be used. These substances come from the meat industry.

composition

It has already been mentioned that bamboo fertilizer must have a high nitrogen content. Bamboo is a very strong and fast-growing grass, which needs nitrogen above all for strong and healthy growth - but not only. An equally high (but significantly lower than the nitrogen content) proportion of phosphorus ensures strong root growth, because the root system has to keep up with the growth of the above-ground stalks. This is the only way to ensure a sufficient supply of nutrients and water. Potassium, in turn, strengthens the plants' resistance, iron and magnesium ensure a strong green leaf.

frequently asked Questions

Can you also use bamboo fertilizer for other plants?

You can also use bamboo fertilizer for other grasses, but this special fertilizer is probably too expensive for lawn fertilizer due to the larger quantities required. In addition, bamboo fertilizer is suitable for other non-flowering ornamental plants that also have high nitrogen requirements. You should not supply flowering plants with this special fertilizer, as nitrogen stimulates shoot growth and the flower then suffers as a result.

Can't bamboo also be fertilized with blue grain?

In principle, you can also fertilize your bamboo with blue grain, as this mineral fertilizer has a high nitrogen content. However, it is also very salty, which the grasses don't particularly like. Therefore, only use blue grain (and other synthetic NPK fertilizers) in low doses and, if possible, only as a liquid fertilizer for bucket bamboo.

Are horn shavings and compost suitable as bamboo fertilizer?

Compost and horn shavings or horn meal are very suitable for fertilizing bamboo plants. To do this, mulch the bamboo with a five centimeter thick layer of horn meal and compost (preferably green waste compost) when planting and renew it again and again. In later years, mulching should be done once a year in April, if necessary a second time in June. In addition, you can supply the bamboo with a self-made manure made from nettles or comfrey.

Which manufacturers offer good bamboo fertilizers?

With the choice of products from well-known brand manufacturers such as Compo or Neudorff, you basically do nothing wrong. Toolisan, an organic-mineral fertilizer that is also used in tree nurseries, is particularly recommended for bamboo. Green24, a manufacturer based in Bochum, also offers high-quality special fertilizers not only for bamboo.

Where can you buy bamboo fertilizer?

Bamboo fertilizer is a rather special fertilizer that is not always available in local hardware or garden stores. In particular, if you want to purchase a specific product, you may be unlucky and it may not be available in your preferred market. In this case, it is advisable to buy online.

Can't I also use lawn fertilizer for my bamboo?

Since the composition of lawn fertilizer is tailored to the needs of fast-growing grasses, you can also use it to fertilize bamboo plants. However, make sure to use pure fertilizer without any additives. Lawn fertilizers with weed killers or moss killers are not suitable for bamboo fertilization.
