No matter which apple variety you choose: Crunchy fruits from your own garden simply taste incomparably delicious. Unfortunately, not all fruits can be stored equally well and should therefore be processed further within a reasonable time.

Canned apples are a treat

Prepare apples

In order to bring as much flavor as possible into the jar, you should only harvest fully ripe fruit on a dry day. Sort out wormy fruit straight away.

  • Wash the apples thoroughly and cut out any damaged areas.
  • Peel the fruit, quarter it and remove the core.
  • Cut into not too thin wedges.

The principle of preserving

Depending on the recipe, the still boiling hot fruits are filled into jars or cooked directly in the preserving jar. The heat in the preserving pot or oven kills germs. As the food cools, a vacuum is created that seals the jars airtight. As a result, the preserved fruit has a very long shelf life.

Boil apple slices without sugar

Less sweet but at least as tasty are apple slices that you cook without any additional sweetness.

1 liter of water
juice of a lemon

  2. Place apples in Weck or twist-off jars, up to an inch below the rim, and top up with water until completely covered.
  3. Close jars tightly and place in a large saucepan or alarm pot. Fill this with enough water so that the glasses are two-thirds in the water bath.
  4. Bring the water to a boil, put the lid on, turn off the heat and leave the apple slices in the pot for about thirty minutes.
  5. Take out and let cool down.
