As an evergreen tree, the tree of life is an ideal privacy or wind protection. It can be planted alone or in hedges, provided the planting meets the requirements. In the right location, the plant will bring joy for a long time.
Thuja is best planted in autumn
time
Planting in autumn or during winter is ideal when the thuja is dormant. Choose a frost-free and overcast day so that the hedge plant is not damaged. Watering is not necessary at this time. The wood begins to develop roots punctually at the beginning of spring. The commercially available container goods enable year-round planting. Between spring and autumn, the tree of life uses a lot of water and is dependent on additional irrigation.
preparations
In order to give the hedge plant the best possible start to the growth phase, water the root ball well before planting. Place it in a tub filled with water for at least two hours so that the substrate is soaked. Once there are no more bubbles, the growth is ready to plant.
distance
For a tree of life hedge, we recommend stretching a plant line. Dig holes along this cord, making sure there is adequate spacing. Thuja varieties grow in different heights and widths. Trees of life that reach a maximum growth height of one meter need a distance of 40 to 60 centimeters all around. For taller trees, you should ensure a space of 90 centimeters.
Instructions for planting
Remove the sod at the later locations. The planting hole is twice as wide as the root ball and is just as deep as it. Store the excavation next to the pits so that you can use the soil later for filling. Loosen the bottom of the pit to a depth of ten centimetres. This measure promotes root penetration in the soil.
Plant thuja:
- Place the root ball in the hole and fill in the gaps with fertilized soil
- In the case of baled goods, press the substrate lightly with your foot
- shake bare-root thujas vigorously to close cavities
- Form a pouring rim around the base of the trunk and water well
tips
After planting root ball material, cut open the cloth and strip down two-thirds of the way. The material decomposes over time.
