Balcony flowers should beautify our stay outdoors. But first they have to sprout leaves and form buds. That takes time. You should therefore come to the balcony box as early as possible. But the planting time is as different as the plants are.

Planting time is always
Yes, you read that right. For the balcony, every day is a potential planting day. However, this does not mean that every plant can enter the balcony on any given day. When is the optimal planting time for a plant depends, among other things, on these factors:
- their heyday
- their frost sensitivity
tips
When buying an unfamiliar balcony plant, ask about the best time to plant it so that it develops optimally.
Plant in winter
Some flowers delight us with their blooms early in the year. They have to be planted accordingly early. In winter, for example, crocuses and snowdrops can be planted in the ground. However, this is only possible if the earth in the flower box (€16.99) is not frozen.
Spring as planting time
Early spring bloomers such as hyacinths or tulips follow in spring. So that they do not freeze to death in severe frosts, they are covered with fir branches. Pansies are also planted in March.
After the ice saints
As soon as no more frosts are to be expected from mid-May, other flowers can follow, which ideally have been grown indoors:
- snapdragon
- elf mirror
- Busy Lizzie
- slipper flower
- Ice Begonias
After the ice saints, geraniums, bluebells, daisies and petunias are also planted directly in flower boxes (€16.99).
tips
Bring overwintered balcony flowers outside again from mid-May. However, make sure to slowly acclimate them to the sun.
summer planting
In summer the flower boxes are full of flowers that are in the most beautiful bloom. If free space can still be found, autumn flowering plants such as autumn crocuses can be planted now.
planting in autumn
Spring flowering bulbs are planted from September and until December in good weather. These include: hyacinths, crocuses, daffodils, snowdrops, tulips, snow cups, crown imperials, anemones, squill and daffodils.
Smaller perennials such as liverworts, violets and Adonis are also planted in autumn. However, they are taken to the cellar for the winter.
