As a tropical plant, the low-maintenance elephant's foot is not hardy. Even at permanent temperatures below about 10 °C, the plant can suffer considerable damage. On the other hand, heat of up to 30 °C does not bother the elephant's foot.

Ideally, you should give your elephant's foot cool (approx. 10 °C) and bright winter quarters. This hibernation is used for recovery, it gathers strength for the next growing season. During this time, an elephant's foot needs very little water and no fertilizer at all. If you do not have a suitable winter quarters, the plant can remain in the living room all year round.
The essentials in brief:
- not hardy
- very sensitive to cold
- Hibernation in the living room possible, but not ideal
- optimal hibernation: slightly cool, but light
- ideal winter temperature: around 10 °C
- water very little in winter and do not fertilize at all
tips
Although an elephant's foot survives the winter in the living room, a cool hibernation is much better for it.
