As a typical Mediterranean plant, the oleander is only partially hardy, i. H. it can only tolerate frost down to a maximum of minus five degrees Celsius and only for a very short time. Younger oleander plants can already wither even at milder temperatures. Nevertheless, you should not overwinter the shrub in the warm apartment.

Oleander should not be overwintered too warm

Do not cultivate oleanders in the living room

Although the winters in the homeland of the oleander are usually very mild and the temperatures rarely drop below zero, the plant still needs a rest phase in winter to gather new strength for the coming growth period. For this reason, oleander is not suitable for a warm living room culture. Only plants that come from the tropics are not used to a seasonal climate but to a daytime climate and can therefore remain in the apartment all year round.

tips

Overwinter oleander as coolly as possible at about five degrees Celsius and in light. If there is no other option and it is cool enough, the shrub will survive overwintering in the dark (e.g. in the basement or in the garage).
