Of the more than 1,000 existing mango varieties, only about 30 different types come onto the German market. They differ significantly from each other not only in shape and color but also in taste.

Mangoes vary in size from about the size of a plum to fruits weighing about two kilos. However, most of the mangoes we sell weigh between 150 g and 680 g. The color varies between red, yellow and green. The shape of the mango can also be very different, for example heart-shaped, round or oval.
Popular mango varieties:
- Kent: from California, large round fruit, dark red skin with little yellow, very sweet juicy flesh, small core
- Nam Dok Mai: from Thailand, oval fruit, creamy-yellow skin, yellow, very sweet flesh
- Keitt: from Florida, oval fruit, yellow skin with a light blush, firm orange-yellow flesh, sweet full flavor
- King: from Australia, large round fruit, orange skin, firm yolk-yellow flesh, mildly sweet taste with a distinct spiciness
- Manila Super Mango: from the Philippines, yellow-orange skin, buttery soft juicy flesh, sweetest mango in the world (according to the Guinness Book of World Records)
Haden: the most cultivated variety of mango in the world, oval-shaped fruit, deep yellow skin with scarlet overflow, sunny yellow aromatic and slightly fibrous flesh
When is a mango ripe?
The color reveals practically nothing about the degree of ripeness of a mango. Because depending on the variety, there are fully ripe deep green and unripe but beautiful red fruits. Ripe mangoes smell very aromatic and give way at a light finger pressure. The emphasis is on "easy". It must not be squeezed, otherwise a rotten spot will develop there. In addition, the skin of a ripe mango usually shows small dark spots.
tips and tricks
You can recognize a ripe mango by its intense scent. If, on the other hand, it smells sour or alcoholic, then it is overripe and you should rather not eat it.
