French lavender, Latin Lavandula stoechas, originally comes from the sun-drenched coastal regions of the Mediterranean. Depending on the variety, the plant can grow to a height of between 30 and 100 centimeters and usually has purple flowers. However, there are also white or pink flowering variants.

Long flowering period
Provided the plant is properly cared for, the Scholavendel impresses with its extremely long flowering period. If the weather conditions are right, it will start flowering as early as May and lasts until September - provided that a summer pruning is carried out. This means that the French lavender flowers much longer than any other type of lavender. This property makes the French lavender, which is also known as the butterfly lavender due to its characteristic flower shape, a popular pot and balcony plant. However, this lavender variety is not very suitable for planting out in the garden because it is not hardy. If possible, French lavender should be cultivated in a sufficiently large pot and overwintered under cold house conditions.
tips and tricks
