Cherry laurel is one of the most popular hedging plants because of its attractive foliage that stays on the tree all year round. What is less known is that the shrub sometimes adorns itself with fragrant flowers twice a year.

When does the laurel cherry blossom?
Depending on the variety, the flowering period extends from April to June. Some species have a somewhat more sparse second bloom in September. The white to delicate beige flowers are clustered in terminal, racemose inflorescences and spread an intense, aromatic scent that attracts many insects. These also take care of the fertilization of the flowers, from which the spherical, initially green and later black colored fruits develop.
tips and tricks
The pulp of the laurel cherry tastes pleasantly sweet; however, the core inside is poisonous when bitten. If there is a risk that children could nibble on the fruit, you should cut back the hedge after flowering or consistently remove all faded inflorescences.
