Yellow leaf discoloration can often be observed on cherry laurel. However, they usually do not signal a serious disease of the plant, but are rather an optical problem. A few easy-to-implement care measures will quickly remedy the situation and ensure strong, dark green colored foliage.

Wrong location or poor ground conditions
First of all, you should take a close look at the location of the laurel cherry. Even if the tree is relatively undemanding, it prefers a sunny to partially shaded garden spot and well-drained, humus-rich soil. The tree often reacts to all-day shading with yellowing of the leaves, since photosynthesis is slower under these conditions.
Due to heavily compacted and leached soil, the laurel cherry can no longer absorb enough nutrients and the foliage turns yellow. Remedy this as follows:
- Loosen the soil around the bushes with a digging fork.
- Work coarse sand into the soil.
- Fertilize the cherry laurel with mature compost, horn shavings (32.93€) or another suitable means.
sunburn on the leaves
Too much sun also leads to yellow leaf changes. Perhaps you felled a tree that was previously shading the laurel, or the laurel was growing in the shade before replanting. As a result, the shrub was less exposed to UV radiation and now reacts sensitively to the sun. Give the plant some time to adapt to the changed conditions. After a few weeks of adaptation, the yellow leaves will disappear on their own.
Waterlogging or lack of watering
Evergreen shrubs like the cherry laurel are very sensitive to longer dry or rainy periods. Loosen the soil if the laurel cherry suffers from waterlogging and provide the plant with sufficient water during longer dry periods. The cherry laurel must also be watered on frost-free days in winter, as the wood evaporates a lot of moisture over the leaf surface.
tips and tricks
Plants that have just been transplanted or used often react to the change of location with yellow leaves. Give the cherry laurel a few weeks to get used to it. Most of the time, the yellowing of the foliage will go away on its own.
