Young Passiflora are initially quite reticent in growth, but then suddenly start and become very large very quickly - heights of six meters and more are not uncommon, and not only in the wild. In addition, the passion flower forms many tendrils, which can become a problem before putting it into winter quarters due to the sheer size of the plant.

Cut back passion flowers for winter quarters

Fortunately, the passion flower also tolerates a radical pruning very well and simply forms new shoots and tendrils in the following year. The pruning does not harm their willingness to bloom either, the plant simply grows too fast for that. Some guidebooks warn against an autumn cut so as not to further weaken the passiflora before the winter break. In fact, however, the plant tolerates the cut very well, so that you can use scissors and cut back all the shoots and tendrils. It is sufficient to shorten only the main shoot to 15 to 20 centimeters above the ground.

tips and tricks

Passiflora are not hardy and should therefore always overwinter in a cool but frost-free and bright room.
