Plant hyacinth bulbs correctly
Hyacinth bulbs thrive in
- Garden bed in the open ground
- Pot on the windowsill
- hyacinth jar
In the garden
The best time to plant hyacinth bulbs is early spring. The tubers then grow well and provide flowering splendor for many years.
Plant the onions between 10 and 15 centimeters deep, depending on their size, with the flat end down.
The hardy tubers only need winter protection in the first year. Alternatively, you can dig them up in the fall and overwinter indoors.
In the pot
The onion is placed in the pot in such a way that the upper end looks out of the ground. After flowering, the plant needs a rest period so that the hyacinth bulbs can gather strength for the next season.
They can stay in the pot or be taken out and stored dry and clean in the basement or garden shed (€24.90).
In the glas
Drive hyacinth bulbs in the jar by placing the bulb in a jar filled with water. The tuber must not come into direct contact with the water.
Hyacinth bulbs overwinter
Hyacinth bulbs overwinter in the garden without any problems, because they are absolutely frost hardy. Indoors, store the dry, clean tubers in a dark, cool place.
Hyacinth bulbs need a cold period
From the end of November, hyacinth bulbs kept indoors must be stored very cold for about eight weeks. Otherwise they hardly form flowers.
Propagate hyacinth bulbs via corms
The hyacinth bulb forms small brood bulbs during the growth phase. In the garden, spring flowers multiply by themselves.
If you want to grow new hyacinths, pull the tubers out of the ground in autumn and separate the bulbs. In spring you can plant them either in a pot or in the garden.
tips and tricks
Stored hyacinth bulbs should never dry out completely. If they are very dry, gently spray them with some water from the spray bottle. However, the onion must not get too wet.
