It is true that most known lily species are considered to be hardy. But in cooler regions such as high altitudes and coastal areas, it is advisable to quarter the bulbs over the winter.

Dig up, quarter and plant again
As a first step, cut back the lily radically in the fall. But don't be hasty: wait until the above-ground parts of the plant have yellowed. The onions draw important nutrients from the leaves and stems while they are still intact.
This is how it goes on:
- Dig up the onion
- remove all remains of leaves and stems (otherwise there is a risk of rot)
- clean onion
- Put the onion in a pot, box or bucket
- cover with sand, earth or sawdust
- place in a cool, frost-free place
- do not fertilize during the winter
- Plant from March
tips and tricks
The bulbs should not dry out during the winter either. The soil should be checked regularly with the thumb test. If it is dry, it is poured carefully and little.
