A bouquet of daffodils in early spring - who doesn't love these flowers? The sunny color of her flowers creates a happy atmosphere. Those who have them in their own garden, who have fallen in love with them and want to multiply them, should be particularly careful now!

This method has proven its worth: division of the onions
The most proven method of propagating daffodils is by dividing their bulbs from underground. If you decide to use this method, you should wait until late summer. Then the best time to share has come. The plants usually bloom the year after next, having gained a good foothold in spring. The results are sorted.
How to proceed:
- Grab a digging fork
- Pull clumps of daffodils out of the ground
- Remove coarse soil from onions
- Separate the onions (smaller than the main onion).
- a piece of the bottom plate should stick to each onion to be propagated (site for rooting)
But where to plant? Plant the newly won onions in a different place. It should be sunny to semi-shady there. A nutrient-rich and permeable soil is necessary for healthy growth. The main bulb is put back in its place when the soil has been fertilized.
Sowing - for patient, adventurous gardeners
- do not choose a hybrid variety for sowing
- Do not remove flowers after they have withered
- Seeds are ripe when the stem buckles
- Remove seeds immediately and do not dry (germination suffers)
- 1 cm deep in seed soil e.g. B. Sow in the cold cold frame (dark and cold germs)
- hesitant germination
- first flowering: after four years
Divide daffodils - not just for propagation
Dividing daffodils isn't just important for propagation. All daffodils should be divided after 3 years. They form brood bulbs after flowering. Over time, the bulbs grow close together, robbing each other of the nutrients in the soil.
Often there are not enough nutrients to produce flowers. For this reason, you should regularly dig up your daffodils and separate the brood bulbs from the main bulb. Subsequent application of fertilizer makes sense.
tips and tricks
For propagation, only separate off onions that have already separated from the main onion.
