In this country, the iris usually occurs naturally with yellowish or blue colored flowers. Due to the centuries-long propagation of the iris in the care of humans, however, countless crosses have now been able to be bred.

Different species flower at different times of the year
Basically, the sword lily is a plant species that is also hardy in this country. The energy is stored in the rhizome during the winter months and used in the spring to form the pointed leaves and magnificent flowers. It is difficult to give a fixed flowering time for the entire plant family, since the different subspecies flower at different times and also let their seeds ripen differently. The basic rule for the bearded iris is that lower subspecies usually bloom before the larger ones:
- 20 to 40 centimeters tall: flowers from April
- 50 to 70 centimeters tall: flowers appear between May and June
- more than 100 centimeters high: flowering from June at the earliest
tips and tricks
The different iris species sometimes have very different location requirements, but most specimens in the field bed cope well with summer dry phases thanks to the moisture stored in the rhizome. You should therefore not water the plants too much during the flowering period if there is a risk of waterlogging at the location.
