Your own eucalyptus in the garden? Why not, the Australian deciduous tree has many useful properties. For example, it keeps mosquitoes away, its leaves can be brewed into tea to relieve colds and finally the eucalyptus impresses with its unique appearance. Just pull your tree yourself. You can find out how on this page.

Grow eucalyptus from seed
Of course, to grow a eucalyptus yourself, you need seeds. You can get these from tree nurseries or online. If you already have a eucalyptus at home, it makes sense to take the necessary seeds from the existing plant. Then you can start:
- You can grow a eucalyptus all year round.
- First you need to stratify the seeds to increase germination.
- Store the seeds in the refrigerator for a week.
- Prepare a seed pot with soil.
- Place the seeds on the surface and press them down lightly. (The eucalyptus is a light germinator).
- Place the seed pot in a sunny spot, for example on the windowsill.
- There should be high humidity here.
- Water the soil regularly, but make sure that no waterlogging forms.
- If necessary, install drainage on the pot.
- The germination time is about three months.
Sow eucalyptus location
When the new shoots are sufficiently long (about 10-15 cm), it is time to transplant the young eucalyptus. It is entirely up to you whether you decide to grow it in a tub as a houseplant or plant it outdoors. In both cases it is important that your eucalyptus remains sunny. If you put the tree outside, you should bear in mind that it needs winter protection in the first few years. The plant also does not tolerate drafts. It is best to transplant your eucalyptus in the spring.
substrate
The eucalyptus makes no great demands on the soil. It copes well with drought. Therefore, always wait until the substrate has dried before watering. To put the eucalyptus in the ground, dig a sufficiently large hole, loosen the surrounding soil and enrich it with some compost. After planting the tree, press down the soil well and water immediately after planting.
Note: Unfortunately, eucalypts that are grown independently from seed do not form flowers.
