Only the right location can produce an oak tree that exploits the full potential of its genes. Since an old tree is not transplanted, it should be found when it is planted. What to look out for

An oak needs sun and space

Light and space are important factors!

The oak loves the light of the sun like hardly any other tree. Your location must therefore not offer space to other shady trees or buildings at the same time.

When planting, also keep in mind that the oak can grow up to 40 m tall, depending on the variety. The crown then easily reaches a diameter of more than 15 m.

Loose soil for deep roots

The oak forms deep taproots. A loose soil makes it easy for them to penetrate deep into the soil and provide a large tree with good water and nutrients.

  • fresh, mineral-rich soil is ideal
  • for example a loamy soil
  • The pH value can be slightly acidic to slightly basic

tips

Poor soils can be optimized with peat before planting.
