If you do not have enough space in your garden for a classic pond, you can create a mini pond using a zinc tub. This is how you create a small water oasis in your green zone that is extremely decorative.

A zinc tub is ideal for a mini pond

Convert the zinc tub into a mini pond - this is how it works

  1. Use a zinc tub with a minimum depth of 40 centimetres.
  2. Place the tub directly at the intended location (filled with water it can no longer be transported). Choose a partially shaded spot that gets six hours of sunlight a day.
  3. Line the zinc tub with stable pond liner.
  4. Cover the bottom of the tub with washed gravel about two inches deep.
  5. Fill the tub halfway with water (using a watering can and saucer).
  6. Place aquatic plants in plant baskets.
  7. Integrate baskets into the mini pond (tall aquatic plants in the background).
  8. Fill the pond with water so that a five centimeter wide edge remains free.
  9. Place floating plants on the water surface (plant a maximum of two thirds so that enough light can penetrate).

These aquatic plants are suitable for the zinc tub

Here are examples of each planting area:

  • Floating plants: frog bite, floating fern, dwarf duckweed
  • Planting height flush with the water surface: swamp forget-me-not, jester flower
  • 10-15 cm deep: marsh marigold, dwarf cattail, stream bungee
  • Up to 30 cm deep: Cyprus grass, lotus flower
  • 20-40 cm deep: water lily, mini water lily, water spring
  • For all zones: waterweed (cleansing!)
