The addition of iron fertilizer is important in every aquarium, especially if you keep root feeders in it. With relatively simple means, you can produce such fertilizer yourself. Instructions are in this post.

Make fertilizer balls yourself - step by step
Ingredients:
- red clay (naturally contains a lot of iron; available in craft stores or from potters)
- Blue Grain (NPK fertilizer - fertilizer with nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium)
- a sachet of Fetrilon 13% (Fetrilon is iron fertilizer; only if necessary)
How to proceed:
- Form small balls out of the clay.
- Make a well in each ball.
- Fill each hollow with two to three grains of blue grain and - if necessary - a small pinch of Fetrilon.
- Now shape each ball into a well sealed whole.
- Put the balls in the oven at 150 degrees Celsius for 30 minutes. This step will dry the fertilizer balls.
- Let the balls cool down.
Application: Depending on the ball and plant size, you should place one or two fertilizer balls on the roots in the aquarium floor.
Important: Each aquarium has an individual iron consumption. Measure the water values regularly (with iron tests from specialist shops) in order to carry out appropriate fertilization.
