When summer comes to an end, the balcony can be "re-decorated". The faded summer flowers are removed and replaced with autumn bloomers. On the one hand, flowering plants or grasses and small perennials that survive the winter are suitable for this.

In autumn, the balcony glows colorfully

Replant balcony boxes step by step

First you need flowers that bloom throughout the fall and some perennials with beautiful fall colors.
It is also important to have the right tools, good potting soil, some gravel or expanded clay (19.73€) for drainage and work gloves.

  1. Remove the old potting soil from the balcony boxes. (€109.00)
  2. Bring in a layer of expanded clay or gravel to prevent waterlogging.
  3. Fill the box with good potting soil. Wider and deeper specimens are better suited for autumn planting, so that the plants can root well in as much soil as possible and thus survive the winter unscathed.
  4. Water the plants before planting.
  5. Place the plants in the container and fill the cavities with soil.
  6. Press the soil down well and water the plants.

Since the plants only need little nutrients during the cold months, fertilizing is not necessary.
If you want, you can also plant flower bulbs for spring.
If it is quite dry in autumn and winter, it is essential to water it regularly. On frosty days in winter, the flower box (€16.99) should be covered with fleece.
