Especially now, when the days are getting shorter and the evenings are getting a little cooler, dancing flames and cozy warmth are also in demand in the garden and offer an exciting spectacle after work is done. You have received enough inspiration from us for the next few days and weeks for physical activities, so it's time for a well-deserved evening of cosiness.

A fireplace in the garden must be adequately secured

If there is enough space in the garden, there are a number of attractive design options for the fireplace that flickers in the evening. Small or a little larger, mobile to transport from A to B, or bricked up in a fixed place and made of glass, metal or natural stone as the basic material - you have a wide selection of cozy oases of peace in the countryside.

What to look out for when planning

A look at the municipal regulations will help to avoid trouble later, because they specify what, when and at what time of the year may be burned outdoors. Incidentally, using garden waste or the last hedge trimming as fuel for the garden fire is strictly forbidden in most federal states. If the fire brigade is suddenly in front of the garden gate and completely uncalled for, the romantic end of work can be very expensive.

What is the safest way to light a fire in the garden?

As far as good combustibility and low smoke development are concerned, untreated beech wood that is as dry as possible is the very first choice. The flame licks less calmly with the wood of coniferous trees, which are also much more prone to dangerous sparks due to the relatively high resin content. Alcohol and petrol are of course taboo when starting a fire, if only in the interest of your children's safety. And finally, a bucket or a filled watering can, even with the utmost caution, is always good if you are nearby in an emergency.

Where is the right place for the garden fire?

Paved or gravel-filled areas are best suited as locations for garden stoves, fire bowls or brick fireplaces. When planning, the space required for seating or tables that are as sheltered as possible should not be forgotten. And finally: Fireplaces under which cables or pipes run are not necessarily optimal, at least not for the solid brick barbecue oven. The optimal and safest place depends primarily on the design of your new fireplace. The following variants are particularly popular with garden and property owners:

  • brick fireplaces
  • Campfire or Swedish fire
  • Metal fireplaces (bowls, baskets or columns)
  • Fireplaces for grilling
  • gas fireplaces

Except for our example below, the technically somewhat experienced do-it-yourselfers can produce all the ideas relatively easily and even without using a great deal of expensive material on their own. You can look forward to a particularly successful example of this in our next newsletter.
