Shimmering white trunk and tall, graceful growth: birch trees are very popular in the garden, above all because of their distinctive appearance: they have also proven to be resilient, ecologically valuable and versatile. So if you would like to plant a birch, you should give the young plant optimal conditions to thrive, starting with the right season to plant the birch.

Basically undemanding and resilient
If you want to plant a young birch in the garden, you should consider a few aspects:
- provide enough space for spreading shallow roots
- ensure a sunny location
- Offer slightly moist loam or peat soil
The right season for planting birch
If you have bought a well-rooted seedling, you can plant the young birch all year round if necessary. However, autumn is particularly suitable. In the spring, the tree is fully occupied with the leaf sprouting and the forthcoming flowering period. Having to drive out roots at the same time would cost the young birch unnecessary energy. In autumn, on the other hand, all energy can flow directly into the roots.
