The smell of garlic isn't exactly pleasant. Mildew infestation in your own garden is even more unpleasant. The fungus forms unsightly spots on the leaves and significantly affects growth. However, using chemical fungicides to control foliar disease is just as harmful. A garlic decoction is made in no time at all, has no side effects and proves to be very effective.

Make garlic broth
You only need:
- four garlic cloves
- a kettle
- a liter of water
- a spray bottle
How to prepare the broth:
- peel the garlic cloves and cut them into small pieces
- Pour boiling water over the garlic cloves
- let the broth cool down well
- now fill the spray bottle with the brew
- spray affected leaves (or preventively also neighboring plants) with the home remedy
Note: Don't get too euphoric that the mildew will go away after the first application. After a few days, spray the garlic decoction on the plant again. Then you will quickly see success.
Garlic broth against downy mildew
There are two types of powdery mildew, true and false. The garlic decoction described here helps above all with an infestation of downy mildew. In contrast to its relatives, it occurs when there is a great drought and spreads both on the upper and lower side of the leaf.
alternatives
Not sure what type of mildew it is, or don't currently have garlic in the house? Don't worry, a fungicide is still not necessary. Other home remedies are also highly effective against the pest:
- milk or buttermilk
- baking soda or baking powder
- field horsetail
- natural predators such as ladybugs
- Plant partners such as basil, chives, chervil or foxglove
Note: Garlic is also very effective as a plant partner in keeping mildew-transmitting fungi away.
