It is easy to care for, evergreen, serves as a privacy screen in a small form or smells wonderfully of fir - the pine is a worthwhile conifer. Although it is very undemanding in terms of location and external conditions, that does not mean that it cannot provide the pine with the best conditions for healthy growth. Here you can find out how to plant a pine tree in a species-appropriate manner.

Different ways, different possibilities
Normally, the pine reaches an appreciable height. Nowadays, however, you can also get cultivars in the nursery that, thanks to their short growth, are wonderfully suited as hedge plants or cut in the top as bonsai. Once you have decided to plant a pine tree in your own garden, the choice is far from over. There are now many different types of conifers:
Pine trees less than 100 cm tall
- Krummholz pine
- mountain pine
- ball pine
Pines with a growth height of more than 100 cm (exemplary selection)
- Scots pine
- red pine
- stone pine
- coastal pine
- snakeskin jaws
- Aleppo pine
- Korea pine
Preparation and site selection
You can even plant small pines in pots on the patio.
The choice of location as well as the eventual planting of a pine should be well planned. Once you have put the conifer in the ground, it reacts very sensitively to a new location change. Therefore, check the following criteria carefully before planting your pine trees in the ground:
- location
- soil claims
- Compliance with further care measures
location
Pines are among the light tree species and therefore prefer sunny locations. Only in an emergency do they adapt to shady site conditions.
soil claims
The substrate should not be too moist, but should be rich in nutrients. By choosing a permeable soil, you avoid harmful waterlogging.
Important measures
Fertilizing is not mandatory, but it can encourage the growth of the conifer. Help out once a month with conventional liquid fertilizer. However, during flowering you need to stop fertilizing. Also make sure to keep the substrate constantly moist. A pruning of the plant is only necessary if you want to cultivate the pine as a bonsai. The substrate should not be too moist, but should be rich in nutrients.
