Snacking can actually be healthy. Unlike chips and the like, chickpeas can be roasted with little fat. They contain a lot of protein and fiber for a healthy intestine. It is particularly advantageous that the delicious snack can be made quickly in your own kitchen.

Roast the chickpeas
You can choose between two roast variants. With the first option you use the oven, with the second the pan on the stove.
Roasting in the oven
For a medium-sized bowl you will need a small can of chickpeas, plus a tablespoon of canola oil and a teaspoon of spices of your choice, such as salt and pepper, cumin powder, paprika, turmeric or curry powder. There are no limits to your creativity.
It is important that you use already cooked chickpeas, because raw peas contain toxins.
Preparation step by step:
- Preheat the oven to 180 degrees convection.
- Drain the chickpeas in a colander and then rinse them again under running water.
- If you prefer dried chickpeas, they must be soaked overnight and then boiled until tender.
- After rinsing or cooking, pat the peas dry with a kitchen towel. If the peas are moist, they won't crisp up when roasted.
- Mix the chickpeas with the oil and the spices.
- Place the peas on a baking tray lined with parchment paper and place in the oven.
After half an hour of baking on the middle rack and turning occasionally, the chickpeas are roasted golden and can be eaten after they have cooled down.
Roasting in the pan
Here you will need about three cups of pre-cooked chickpeas, two tablespoons of oil (either canola oil or coconut oil), and a teaspoon of seasoning to your liking, as well as salt and pepper.
- Heat the oil in the pan.
- Once the oil is hot, add the peas and stir with the wooden spoon.
- After searing briefly, turn the heat down to medium.
- Fry the peas for about 20 minutes, turning them constantly.
- Once golden to light brown in color, add the spice of your choice and mix well.
After a short cooling period, the chickpeas can be eaten.
Using the roasted chickpeas
Although high in calories, roasted chickpeas are a great alternative to chips and flips.
The chickpeas fill you up, satisfy the craving for sweets and give our body a lot of fiber. In addition, they provide us with important vegetable protein, iron and calcium.
Besides being a snack between meals, roasted chickpeas are also great as a crunchy ingredient for delicious salads.
