Easy to care for and hardy, blooming profusely and non-toxic - the weigela is almost ideal for every garden. For this, however, it needs a sunny location and humus-rich, permeable soil. Then spring becomes a true blaze of colour.

Depending on the variety, the Weigela flowers in soft or bright pink

Most varieties of weigela bloom in May and June, often again in autumn. With a pruning after the first flowering you can support this second flowering a little. An exception is the dwarf variety "All Summer Red", which flowers continuously from May to October.

The essentials in brief:

  • Flowering time for most varieties: May to June
  • often second flowering in autumn
  • particularly long-flowering: dwarf weigela "All Summer Red", continuously from May to October
  • Flower colors: white (very rare), light to golden yellow, pink to bright red

tips

By cutting back after flowering, you can increase the chance of a second flowering in the fall.
