In times of upcycling, it has almost become a cult: the Euro pallet. And it can also offer an amazing variety of designs for herb gardeners. We will show you how to create innovative herb beds in a euro pallet.

Why the Euro pallet is suitable as a herb plant
The Euro pallet is currently very popular with upcycling enthusiasts - alternative cafés serve their guests on completely self-made pallet furniture, living pioneers live in self-constructed, original pallet buildings. Why the Euro pallet is so popular may be due to its robust, stable slat construction, the block supports that raise or create indentations and its practical format. With its large but still manageable dimensions and its straight edges, it can be used in almost any direction in new ways.
These properties
- stable and durable
- Indentations by block supports
- large but handy format
- straight edges to stand up in all directions
are literally also ideal "framework conditions" for a herb bed system. Why?
The first point goes without saying. A herb bed system, especially if it is to be mobile, must be stable. In addition, the herb bed should bring you joy and a certain kick in the soup for longer than one season.
Regarding the second point: The indentations created by the block supports on the underside of the Euro pallet are ideal for the small space requirements of the kitchen refiners that grow as perennials or dwarf shrubs.
The format of 1.20 m length, 80 cm width and 14.4 cm height is also ideal for a small herb plant culture.
The diverse installation options offer a lot of creativity when realizing your pallet herb bed.
In the following, we present two ideas with building instructions on how you can fill the Euro pallet with aromatic greenery. In doing so, we start with the installation variability of the Euro pallet and suggest a vertical and a horizontal variant.
manual
Vertical - The Herb Palette Rack
With this variant, the Euro pallet stands on one long edge and the plant containers for the herbs are created between the block supports on the underside.
To do this, nail a pallet-length board parallel to the top battens on the outside and in the middle over each of the three pairs of blocks. In order to get shelves in as well, close the six gaps that have been created on their undersides according to the installation side with another board of the appropriate length.
In this way you have created two elongated planters at the top, in the middle and at the bottom, making a total of six elongated planters. You should line this with mulch film so that the wood does not rot. You can then fill them with soil suitable for the herb varieties and plant them.
You should fix the herbal pallet rack as a whole to a wall.
Horizontal - the mobile herbal pallet bed
You can do exactly the same thing, just horizontally, for a portable herb palette bed. Here you close the top batten side entirely and the outsides also with boards. On the inside, connect the block supports with upright boards, creating a cross with 4 rectangular planters.
These each form a mini bed for two or three types of herbs with similar soil preferences.
