With its lush blue flowers, the wisteria cannot be overlooked. In addition, the robust climbing plant provides a Mediterranean flair and holiday feeling in the home garden. However, this is not harmless, because the wisteria is very poisonous.

Various toxic components can be found in all parts of plants. However, the seed pods represent a particular danger. They burst with a bang and throw the seeds out. This is not only attractive for children. However, even the (perhaps unintentional) consumption of two seeds triggers poisoning in them.
How does blue rain poisoning manifest itself?
Not only the seeds but all parts of the wisteria are very poisonous. Various symptoms can occur when consumed. The pupils dilate, the affected person becomes pale and sleepy. Dizziness, nausea and severe headaches occur, as do vomiting and diarrhea.
Severe poisoning can result in circulatory collapse and even death. Wisteria can also be deadly for dogs and cats and other pets. Animals show symptoms similar to humans when poisoned and should be treated in the same way.
Symptoms of wisteria poisoning:
- paleness
- sleepiness
- a headache
- dizziness
- nausea
- Vomit
- diarrhea
- dilated pupils
- circulatory collapse
- Caution: highly toxic!
What do I have to do in case of poisoning?
Especially if children are affected by poisoning, you should immediately consult a doctor or a hospital. Because it is usually difficult or impossible to determine exactly what and how much they have eaten. In mild cases, it might help to drink a lot and bind the toxins with charcoal tablets.
tips
Since the wisteria is highly poisonous, it does not belong in a family garden!
