- Threading the cutting line correctly into the spool - this is how it works
On common grass trimmer models, the entire spool does not have to be replaced when the line is used up. As a rule, only a new mowing line is wound up. These instructions will make you familiar with the correct procedure from preparation to skillfully threading the spool.

materials and preparation
To ensure that the freshly wound thread does not tear or jam the first time you use it, read the operating instructions for the right strength before you buy it. If you have the new mowing line on hand, prepare for the replacement in these steps:
- Soak cutting line in water for 24 hours
- Disconnect the lawn trimmer (€88.00) from the power supply, remove the battery or pull the spark plug cable
- Open the mowing head by pressing the two latches on the side
- Take out the coil, spring and ring
- Pull out and discard old thread
- Put spring and ring aside ready to hand
You can read about how long a new mowing line should be in the user manual for your lawn trimmer. As a rule, you can get by with 200 cm.
Threading the cutting line correctly into the spool - this is how it works
Bend the cut grass trimmer line in the middle so that one end is about 10 cm longer. Hook the thread into the roll at the kink. Please place the longer side in the lower groove. An arrow on the thread spool shows in which direction you thread the double thread. Each half of the thread stays in its groove. The two wires must not cross each other.
There are two slots on the coil for fixing the two ends. Tuck each end of thread into a slit, leaving about 4 to 6 inches (10 to 15 cm) overhanging. Now you can reassemble the thread spool with ring and spring. As you insert the spool into the head, simultaneously slide the ends of the line through the appropriate holes on the outside. Finally, put the lid on.
tips
If there is still plenty of line on the spool, you can save yourself the hassle of winding up new cutting line. If the grass trimmer line does not catch up, tap the mowing head briefly on the ground with the engine running. The thread brake releases and pushes a new piece of thread forward.
