The strong tug on the cable pull alone is not enough if you want to start your lawn mower properly. In order for the device to actually start and the engine to run smoothly, important precautions must be observed. Read here how to start a petrol lawnmower correctly.

Checking the oil and fuel before starting - tips for preparing for the start
In order for your lawn mower to start with the first pull of the starter rope, the engine must have sufficient oil and petrol available. Therefore, subject the supply of these resources to a check before turning on your petrol mower. How to proceed:
- Open the gas cap and take a look inside
- If no fuel is visible, fill with new fuel up to the mark on the inside
- Check the oil level and top up with new oil if necessary
Please ensure that neither petrol nor oil drips onto the engine or cutting deck. As soon as you turn on the lawn mower, both substances burn with an unpleasant formation of smoke.
Lawn mowers start in 5 steps - Here's how
When the fuel and oil levels are correct, place the lawnmower on a level surface free of rocks or grass. In order to start the engine in an exemplary manner, the following 5 steps are required:
- open the fuel tap
- Set the cutting height on the wheels
- Release the engine brake by pulling the lever towards the handlebar
- Push the choke (throttle) on the handlebar forward
- Grasp the handle on the cable and pull vigorously
If the engine doesn't start on the first pull, don't get discouraged and try two or three more times. Once the engine is running, use the throttle to control the fuel flow. If an excess of petrol is pumped into the engine, it will start to smoke because the combustion gases are not completely burned. This process causes harmful deposits in the engine.
tips
After the last lawn cut, your lawn mower goes on its well-deserved winter break. To ensure that the engine starts up again next spring with the first suit, it is given careful care before it is put away. Clean the device thoroughly and let the engine run until the tank is empty. Stale gasoline is the number one cause of a lawnmower not starting.
