Regular lawn mower care is rewarded with a durable and resilient engine that starts on command. This guide will make you familiar with the right care program after each mowing and before wintering.

Regular cleaning is important for the lawnmower to function for a long time

A clean lawn mower stays in top shape for longer - tips for care in between

If you regularly remove dirt, grass clippings and deposits from your lawn mower, you will optimize its functionality, resilience and performance. Treat your motorized garden helper to the following care treatment after each use:

  • Allow the lawnmower to cool down, pull the spark plug connector and close the petrol tap
  • Lay the unit on its side with the air filter and spark plug facing skyward
  • Attach the knife blocker to safely remove grass and dirt with water and a brush

Once the underside is sparkling clean, place the mower on its wheels. Wipe the cutting deck with a damp cloth. Finally, check the air filter and spark plug for contamination. Knock out an air filter. Unscrew the spark plug and brush deposits from the contacts. Now screw in the spark plug, establish the connection with the plug and open the fuel tap. Your lawnmower is now ready for the next lawn cut.

Pre-Winter Care and Maintenance - How to do it right

Before winter, add the following maintenance work to your regular care program so that your lawn mower survives the long service life undamaged:

  • Drain the fuel tank completely or let the engine idle until it stops
  • Change the oil or top up with fresh oil
  • Put the clean, well-maintained lawnmower in a dry, frost-free winter quarters
  • Cover with an old cloth to protect from dust

Paper air filters are used up after 25 hours. Foam filters, on the other hand, last 100 hours. Therefore, before winter, check if you need to change the filter. Also check the spark plug for damage and a thick layer of soot. This component needs to be replaced at intervals of 3 to 4 years.

tips

Regular care contributes significantly to the fact that your petrol lawn mower generates as little noise as possible. If the mower emits loud, rattling noises out of the blue, experience has shown that the cutter bar is damaged. If you replace the lawnmower blade, the noise level drops to a tolerable level.
