The lance rosette (Aechmea) is one of the interesting and very easy-care ornamental plants. You can't do much wrong when caring for this ornamental plant, which belongs to the bromeliads. What is important when caring for lance rosettes.

The lance rosette likes to spend the summer outdoors

What should be considered when casting a lance rosette?

Lance rosettes need high humidity and regular watering, but do not tolerate waterlogging.

Always water the substrate only when the surface is thoroughly dry. In the center of the plant is the so-called cistern, which must always be filled with water. Regular spraying increases humidity.

Use lime-free, lukewarm water, preferably rainwater for watering and spraying.

Do you need to fertilize lance rosettes?

As an epiphyte, the lance rosette needs only a few nutrients. Fertilizing is therefore superfluous. If you don't want to do without fertilizing, add highly diluted liquid fertilizer to the cistern at two-week intervals from April to September.

Is a lance rosette cut?

Except for the children, which you can use for propagation, the lance rosette is not cut.

When does the lance rosette have to be repotted?

The lance rosette dies after flowering. It may take a while for it to bloom though. Repotting is only necessary if the pot is completely rooted and the plant has not yet bloomed.

Is the lance rosette susceptible to diseases and pests?

Lance rosettes are very robust. Diseases only appear if you water the plant too much or there is no water in the cistern. If there is waterlogging, there is a risk of rot.

Pests such as aphids and scale insects spread particularly well in winter when the humidity is too low. Rinse the plant with the shower. Increase humidity in winter by placing bowls of water.

How do you overwinter a lance rosette correctly?

Since the lance rosette is not hardy, it must be cared for indoors during the winter. Even during the winter, the temperatures should not drop below 15 degrees.

In winter, watering is very moderate.

tips

Lance rosettes flower for only one season and then die. Before disposing of them in the compost, however, you should separate the kindles to grow new offshoots of the Aechmea.
