Very decorative and not difficult to care for, the ash flower is an ornament in the garden, on the balcony or in the apartment. However, it does not like it too warm, so it is more suitable for a conservatory than in the living room.

The ash flower likes to be outdoors in summer

Plant the ash flower

In summer you can plant your ash flower in the garden bed, but planting in a bucket is more flexible. It prefers humus-rich and permeable soil. She likes it bright, but does not tolerate the blazing sun very well. If it is too warm or too dark for the ash flower, then its bloom suffers.

Water and fertilize the ash flower

The ash flower is one of the very thirsty plants and should therefore be watered plentifully, but without causing waterlogging. Also avoid pouring the water directly on the leaves, the cineraria does not like that very much.

From April to August add liquid fertilizer to the irrigation water about once a week. After flowering, gradually stop fertilizing so that the cineraria can prepare for winter.

The ash flower in winter

Your cineraria best spends the winter in a bright winter quarters at temperatures between 10 °C and 15 °C. Water moderately, but don't let the root ball dry out. Fertilizing, on the other hand, is not necessary.

Diseases and pests in the ash flower

As another name of the ash flower suggests, it is susceptible to an infestation with lice. Therefore, the lice flower should not be kept too warm. It prefers temperatures between 16 °C and 18 °C. So while it's an attractive houseplant, it feels much more at home on the cooler porch or in the conservatory. In the summer she also likes to be outside in the garden.
