The epiphyllum or leaf cactus is native to the rainforests of Central and South America. It is therefore used to warmer temperatures all year round. You must overwinter the epiphyllum frost-free but cool - at least if you want it to flower next year.

Leaf cacti also need sufficient light in winter

Overwinter Epiphyllum in a cool place

While the Epiphyllum likes to be very warm in summer, it needs a break in winter. Only then can it develop flowers for the following year.

Therefore, place the leaf cactus in a cool place in winter with temperatures between 12 and 15 degrees. Make sure you have enough light.

Water the epiphyllum very sparingly during the winter and stop fertilizing altogether.

tips

If you take care of your Epiphyllum on the terrace or balcony in summer, make sure that you bring it back inside in good time. It must not be cooler than ten degrees at the site.
