The linden tree is not difficult to care for, but it is not entirely undemanding either. If it is too dark, it will not flower and will lose its leaves. Young linden trees up to the age of about four years are particularly attractive.

Only well cared for linden trees bloom

Plant the lime tree

The linden tree does not make any special demands on the soil, it only needs normal potting soil, but it also grows well in hydroponics. Since it grows quite quickly, it should be repotted regularly in spring.

The right location

The room linden reacts quite sensitively to a wrong location by losing its leaves and not blooming. She likes it bright but slightly shady and not too warm (up to 15 °C is ideal). In the midday sun, their leaves burn easily. In summer, the linden tree looks forward to a bright, sun- and wind-protected place in the garden.

Water and fertilize indoor lime trees

In the summer, the linden tree likes to be watered frequently and plentifully and given a portion of fertilizer once or twice a week. In winter, sparing watering and a little fertilizer about every three weeks is enough. Waterlogging should be prevented at all times.

Overwinter room lime trees properly

In winter, the room lime is sufficient for temperatures of around 5 °C to 10 °C. She needs a lot less water now, but reduce the amount slowly. In dry heating air, the lower leaves of the indoor linden can easily fall off.

Multiply linden trees

It is best to propagate indoor linden trees in spring or summer using strong cuttings. If you use faded shoots for this, then it is very likely that lime trees will bloom again.

The essentials in brief:

  • growing fast
  • can grow up to 3 m high
  • Location: bright, semi-shady, rather cool
  • Water plentifully in summer and sparingly in winter
  • Fertilize once or twice a week, every three weeks in winter
  • no direct midday sun in summer
  • usually flowers from January to April
  • is considered to be slightly toxic, irritating to skin and mucous membranes
  • Propagation best by cuttings
  • hibernate at approx. 5 °C to 10 °C
  • Pruning possible but not necessary

tips

If you want your lime tree to always look good, then grow young plants in good time so that you can replace the old lime tree if necessary.
