Freeze or not Freeze? The temperature at which you can leave your yucca palm outside (or rather not) depends on the specific species. In the large family of yuccas or palm lilies, some species are winter and frost hardy, while others prefer high temperatures.

The indoor yucca needs warmth - even in winter

Room yucca needs high temperatures

The Yucca elephantipes or giant palm lily, for example, which is often cultivated as a houseplant, prefers high temperatures and does not tolerate frost at all. You can cultivate this plant on the balcony or terrace during the summer months, but you should bring it indoors in good time before the first frosts start to fall. Other palm lilies - such as the Yucca gloriosa or the Yucca filamentosa - feel better planted in the garden. These palm lilies are frost hardy down to minus 20 or even more degrees Celsius and can therefore remain outside over the winter.

tips

The indoor plant Yucca elephantipes is also happy about a vegetation break in a bright room and at a maximum of 10 °C - of course in the plus range.
