Frankincense plants come from India. They are not hardy, but on the contrary very sensitive to frost. They are therefore usually only grown once a year, since it is not worth overwintering them for many gardeners. In principle, however, it is possible to grow an incense plant for several years.

The frankincense plant does not tolerate sub-zero temperatures at all. Even ten degrees is actually too cool for her. If you want to take care of frankincense plants for several years, you have to overwinter them in a frost-free place in the house.
How to overwinter an incense plant properly
You should bring an incense plant to the winter quarters by October at the latest. You can cut them back beforehand so that they don't take up so much space. The ideal temperatures for wintering are ten to twelve degrees.
Do not place the plants too dark. During the winter, the frankincense plant is only watered very sparingly so that the root ball does not dry out completely. There is no fertilizer at all in winter.
Maintain after the winter break
From March you can take the frankincense plant out of its winter quarters. Gradually acclimate them to more light and warmth. Do not immediately put the plants back on the balcony and certainly not in direct sunlight.
Replace the old plant substrate to ensure the supply of nutrients. Traffic light plants should be repotted in spring. Repotted frankincense plants should not be fertilized in the first few weeks.
Don't water too much and too often at first. The frankincense plant first has to get used to larger amounts of water.

Frankincense plants are not very demanding in terms of substrate. Normal potting soil is sufficient. If you use garden soil, you should mix in some mature compost.
