The mountain palm is probably not poisonous

It is considered likely that a mountain palm is not poisonous to cats either. So far, no toxins have been discovered in the leaves, flowers and stems. To date, no cases of poisoning by mountain palms have become known.

However, it is not always advisable to keep a mountain palm if a cat is part of the household.

Many cats are so fascinated by the mountain palm that they chew on the fronds and trunks. There is a risk of parts of the plant being swallowed. The palm itself doesn't do well either.

How well do you know your cat?

Some cat lovers think the warning about mountain palms is exaggerated because there is no risk of poisoning.

If you have a cat that you can rely on not tampering with houseplants, there is certainly nothing stopping you from caring for a mountain palm indoors. Just make sure the plant is in a good location and has a firm footing so it can't accidentally tip over.

However, if you cannot rule out that the house cat will attack the mountain palm, you should rather refrain from purchasing it.
