From spring to autumn, the indoor cypress prefers a bright, warm location, preferably on the terrace or balcony. At the latest when the temperature drops below 10 degrees, it is time to bring the plant into the house or take it off the window sill in the living room.

Places for wintering indoor cypresses

Since the indoor cypress is not hardy, the place to hibernate should not have freezing temperatures. The temperatures should be between 5 and 10 degrees.

Bright corridor windows, bright cellar windows or cool conservatories are well suited for wintering indoor cypresses. The main thing is that there is enough light, otherwise the plant will turn brown. Direct sunlight and temperatures above 10 degrees should be avoided.

Caring for the non-hardy indoor cypress

In winter, the indoor cypress stopped growing. It then needs much less water than in summer. Water only enough that the substrate does not dry out completely.

Actually, indoor cypresses do not need to be fertilized at all. Under no circumstances should you supply them with fertilizer in the period from October to March.

Take them out of their winter quarters from March

As soon as the days get warmer, slowly get the indoor cypress used to its usual place on the window sill. However, the plants are only allowed to go outdoors when it is guaranteed that no more frost periods are to be expected.

Every two years you should repot the indoor cypress when you get it out of winter quarters. Put them in fresh potting soil that you can mix with some sand. Cactus soil is also well suited for indoor cypresses.

If you want to prune the plant, now is also the right time.

After repotting, you must not fertilize the room cypress, as the new substrate contains sufficient nutrients.

Unfortunately, indoor cypress shoots often turn brown. This is usually due to mistakes in maintenance or the wrong location. The plants need a very bright place that does not receive too much direct sunlight.
