Do not choose a location that is too hot
Roses are "mimosas": Basically, the noble plants prefer a sunny and sheltered location, which should not get too hot at the same time. For this reason, you should exercise caution, especially on balconies, because the temperatures there heat up very quickly in the sun and the otherwise carefully tended climbing roses burn. For this reason, climbing roses cultivated in tubs should preferably be in the light semi-shade on a west or east side. On the other hand, south-facing locations should be avoided, as they usually get too hot.
Climbing roses need a lot of space
Whether you prefer planters made of terracotta, ceramic, wood or plastic is entirely up to you. The size or depth of the pot is much more important than the material. Like all roses, climbing roses are deep-rooted, which is why the container should be at least 50 centimeters high - rose experts recommend even more space so that the roots are not cramped.
Provide a suitable climbing aid
Many climbing rose varieties can also be grown as a bush or shrub, but if the plant is to climb, it definitely needs a good climbing aid. This applies in particular to the so-called rambler roses. For this purpose you can use rose arches, but also wooden or metal frames and a rope mesh.
Plant roses correctly in the pot
The roots of the climbing rose need a lot of space! Make sure that the roots have plenty of soil between them and the walls of the pot - if possible, use special rose soil mixed with compost or a special long-term fertilizer for planting. Good drainage is also extremely important, because although climbing roses need a lot of water, they cannot tolerate waterlogging.

Sufficient fertilization is absolutely necessary for healthy growth and rich flowering. Both when planting and when repotting, you should work a good long-term fertilizer into the plant substrate. In addition, provide the plant with a liquid rose fertilizer every 14 days between April and the end of June / beginning of July.
