The best time to plant pampas grass

You can generally plant pampas grass from spring to autumn. The prerequisite is that the ground is not frozen.

Do not plant in midsummer

In midsummer, when it is very dry, it is better not to plant the ornamental grass outdoors. The perennial likes it dry, but it must not dry out completely. If necessary, you must water sufficiently.

Divide pampas grass in spring

If you want to propagate your pampas grass, spring is the best time to do so. Cut down the ornamental grass and expose the rootstock.

Use the spade to prick off parts of the rootstock or split it in two.

Then plant the root pieces at the desired location in the garden or in a sufficiently large bucket.

Provide winter protection in the fall

While pampas grass is hardy, winter protection is required if you plant it late in the year.

Tie the existing leaves together at the top to protect the clump of plants from getting wet.
