Due to its silky, silvery shimmering hair, the pasque flower is one of the most popular motifs for many amateur photographers. The plant, which belongs to the buttercup family, belongs to early bloomers and is an important first source of food for numerous insects. It therefore has a high ecological value and is an enrichment for every garden.

Pasque flowers bloom in spring

Attractive heralds of spring

In mild weather conditions, the first calyxes appear as early as late February or early March. Depending on the location, the flowering period extends into June. On sunny, mild spring days, the petals of the pasque flower open in the morning and close again in the afternoon.

Extremely pretty flowers

The five intense blue-violet colored petals are hairy on the outside and are about four centimeters long. Due to the dark colour, the flowers direct the heat to the center of the flower to the stamens and ovary, similar to a parabolic mirror. This attracts insects, which hungrily feast on the pollen.

The infructescence ripens four to six weeks after flowering. They also look extremely attractive with their long, silvery hair.

Very early flowering in the right location

Give the pasque flower a place where the rays of the spring sun warm the ground early. The first blossoms of the pasque flower stand in attractive contrast to the garden, which still seems wintry.

The pasque flower thrives particularly well on sandy, gravelly, nutrient-poor and well-drained soils. Since the pasque flower is not very competitive, you should place the attractive early bloomer at a sufficient distance from other plants.

tips

Remove faded flowers regularly. As a result of the consistent care, the formation of new flowers is stimulated and the pasque flower often even bears flowers a second time.
