The Magnificent Candle (Gaura lindheimeri) is sometimes also referred to as the Prairie Candle, since its natural region of origin is in the vast landscapes of the border region between the USA and Mexico. When choosing a location in the garden, the natural needs of clump-forming perennials should be taken into account.

Substrate, sun exposure and overwintering
The magnificent candle is often referred to as hardy, but in fact it can only be overwintered outdoors in very mild locations with winter protection. A culture in a tub and overwintering in a bright, frost-free room is usually more promising. The magnificent candle grows extremely luxuriantly and floriferously in a location in full sun, even with little care. The location should meet the following factors as far as possible:
- sheltered from the wind
- Substrate rich in nutrients and loose
- evenly moist, but not susceptible to waterlogging
tips
The magnificent candle thrives particularly well in sheltered, warm locations next to a south-facing house wall. After flowering, a pruning should be done in autumn to just above the ground to encourage the formation of overwintering buds.
