At first it was just one sheet. Now it's a dozen. The leaves are dry, drooping and spoiling the overall picture. What can be behind it and how do the leaves become attractive again?

Dry leaves on the cylinder brush can be the result of insufficient moisture

The substrate is too dry

The most common reason why the leaves of a cylinder brush or tree dry up is lack of water. Keep the soil evenly moist! The root ball should not dry out. This is particularly important in the summer months.

If the soil is very dry, it helps if you take the plant out of the pot and briefly immerse it in a warm water bath. Only use low-lime to lime-free water for the water bath and for watering in general!

It is also recommended to regularly spray the cylinder brush with water. That's good for him! He doesn't like dry (room) air. Spray the plant every few days and ventilate the room that serves as a location!

Hibernation is giving him problems

In addition, behind dry leaves can be a bad overwintering. The sudden change in temperature and the reduced light weaken the Callistemon. In addition, it suffers if it is not watered enough in winter.

Waterlogging in the root area

Dry leaves can also set in if the bottlebrush is exposed to waterlogging. Always discard water in the saucer and ensure good drainage in the pot! Root rot is often accompanied by withering leaves that soon fall off.

Pest infestation: Get rid of the pests

Pests are less common behind the dry leaves. As a rule, pests such as scale insects and aphids stay away from the cylinder brush because its leaves contain essential oils that deter the pests.

Yellow, dry and falling leaves - normal aging phenomenon

Dry leaves are normal to a small extent:

  • evergreen plant
  • gradually sheds leaves
  • preferred time to shed old leaves: After wintering
  • regular pruning and thinning prevent aging too quickly (many old shoots mean many dry and falling leaves)

tips

In most cases, dry leaves do not mean the end of this plant. If care is corrected, fresh leaves will soon sprout again.
