Large quantities of tasty table grapes are ripening in more and more gardens. Often the family cannot eat all the fruit in a short time. So what could be more obvious than processing them into delicious juice and preserving the stock for a long time? We explain how to do this in this article.

Boiling grape juice will keep it for a long time

Ingredients and utensils needed

For two bottles of 1 liter of juice you need:

  • 2 kg of grapes
  • 450ml water
  • 75 - 100 g of sugar per liter of pressed juice
  • 2 dashes of lemon juice

Additionally you need:

  • cooking pot
  • blender
  • Linen cloth or muslin diaper
  • key
  • funnel
  • preserving machine or the oven

The right bottles

Wide-necked disposable bottles with screw caps are very practical for preserving. Alternatively, Weck juice bottles with a large opening are suitable, which are closed with a glass lid, rubber ring and metal clip.

If you want to continue using used bottles, you should make sure that the seal of the twist-off cap is intact.

make grape juice

  1. Thoroughly wash the bunches of grapes, sort out spoiled fruits, remove the stalks.
  2. Add the water to the saucepan along with the grapes.
  3. Bring to a boil and simmer for about twenty minutes.
  4. Meanwhile, sterilize the bottles and caps in boiling water for ten minutes.
  5. Blend the fruit and water into a thick mass using a hand blender.
  6. Lay the cloth over a large strainer placed over a bowl.
  7. Drain the juice and squeeze the grapes well.
  8. Bring the juice to the boil again and add the sugar.
  9. As soon as the crystals have dissolved, fill into the bottles with the funnel (5.00 €).
  10. Close immediately.

Boil grape juice

For a longer shelf life, it is advisable to additionally preserve the grape juice.

  1. Place the grapes on the grate of the preserving machine.
  2. Pour in water until at least half of the jars are immersed in the liquid.
  3. Wake up at 90 degrees for 30 minutes.
  4. Remove, let cool and check that a vacuum has formed in all bottles.

If you do not have a wake-up pot, you can cook the juice in the oven:

  1. Place the bottles in a drip pan and pour in two to three centimeters of water.
  2. Put in the oven and heat it up to 180 degrees.
  3. As soon as bubbles appear in the bottles, turn off, leave the grape juice in the tube for another 30 minutes.
  4. Remove with a glass spoon and leave to cool.

If you store the juice in a cool, dark place, it will keep for at least six months.

tips

If you have a pressure cooker, you can place the grapes in the strainer of the saucepan. Bring to the boil until you hear steam coming out of the valve. Switch off the plate, but leave the pot on it. Once cool, open and juice as above.
