Whether with pink, white, red or violet flowers - the scented geranium (also called scented geranium) only keeps flowering as long as it is properly cared for. Nothing comes from nothing - that's the motto. But which procedures are crucial?

What role does watering this potted plant play?
This popular pot plant for rooms, balconies and terraces tolerates drought due to its origin (Mediterranean area). If you ever see sagging leaves, don't panic. This plant usually recovers quickly.
While she handles drought well, she does not tolerate wet conditions. It should therefore only be watered when the top layer of soil has dried. It is better to water less often than too much.
How often and with what should the scented geranium be fertilized?
It is sufficient to fertilize the scented geranium every two weeks. But not outside of their growing season! From mid-September, fertilizing will be stopped. In winter, this plant does not need fertilizer. Anyone who neglects fertilizing will sooner or later find that the scented geranium will no longer bloom.
During the period between March and September it can be supplied with a suitable fertilizer for flowering plants (€10.47). Whether in liquid form in the irrigation water or in the form of sticks is up to you. The fertilizer is dosed according to the manufacturer's instructions.
Does this plant need pruning?
- Cut back weak shoots before overwintering
- cut down to 10 cm in spring
- Why? Blooms only on the new shoots
- Clean out old leaves and flowers regularly
Where can it be overwintered?
Since the scented geranium is extremely sensitive to frost, it should be overwintered:
- put in towards the end of October
- Overwintering place: 5 to 10 °C cool and bright
- take from old earth and put in a mixture of earth and sand
- pour little
- do not fertilize
- move out after the ice saints
- repot immediately if necessary
Which diseases and pests can harm her?
Geranium rust manifests itself in brown leaves. Pests rarely appear on the scented geranium as they are repelled by its smell. Sometimes an aphid or spider mite infestation can occur. Sick or infested specimens should not be propagated.
tips and tricks
