Usually splinters and thorns can be easily pulled out of the skin with tweezers. Sometimes the spikes are so deep in the skin that no utensils can help. In these cases, you should pretreat the areas with home remedies.

- baking powder: as an effective remedy for small splinters
- duct tape: for people who are not sensitive to pain
- olive oil: for children and sensitive people
- Steam: as a last option
baking powder
Mix a tablespoon of baking soda with a little water and stir the home remedy until you get a mushy consistency. Spread the mixture on the spot where the thorn has penetrated the meat. Cover them with a band-aid or wrap a gauze bandage around them. The leavening agent keeps the area moist so the skin will soften and swell over the next few hours and the splinter will come out.
duct tape
This method is suitable for people with a low sensitivity to pain, because the peeling off causes pain due to sticking hairs. If the splinter has penetrated the skin too deeply, even the strongest duct tape will not help. If the spike sticks out, press the tape firmly onto the spot and then pull it off with a jerk. In the best case, the splatter sticks.
olive oil
This variation offers a gentle alternative if you can't grab the spike with tweezers. Feet and hands are allowed to soak in warm oil for 20 minutes so that the skin is softened and the splinter is pushed out. If this appears on the skin surface, it can be grasped with tweezers. Olive oil has a positive side effect because it cares for the sore spot.
Steam
If you don't have any of these remedies around the house, bring water to a boil and pour it into a bowl. Expose the affected area of skin to the steam, causing the wood to swell and push itself out of the wound. If the thorn does not appear after one application, you can repeat the treatment several times a day.
tips
In the pharmacy there are special ointments that are applied to the skin area and covered with a plaster. They do the job automatically and painlessly.
