Purchase Criteria

kind

circular sprinkler: The circular sprinkler ejects a circular jet of water - either "spreading" over a single nozzle or distributed over several nozzles, usually three. Models with only one nozzle are also called impulse sprinklers. In principle, circular sprinklers have the greatest range of all water sprinklers. They are therefore particularly suitable for medium-sized to large gardens. They are also ideal if your garden is quite soft or if you want to irrigate round beds.

square sprinkler: The square sprinkler is considered a garden sprinkler classic. The nozzles are arranged in one or two rows on its tiltable bar, which swings back and forth evenly during operation. The square sprinkler is ideal for small to medium-sized gardens with a square, i.e. rectangular or square, lawn area.

sprinkler: The spray sprinkler has particularly small nozzles. It is intended for the smallest irrigation areas. There are both circle and square sprinklers that are designed as spray sprinklers.

pop-up sprinklers: The pop-up sprinkler is embedded in the ground and connected to an underground pipe system. The so-called riser of the device (the head on which the nozzles are located) comes up only for use, after which it disappears again into its recessed housing, so that only the cover cap is visible. Pop-up sprinklers are available as circle or square sprinklers. They are recommended if you are aiming for an inconspicuous and permanently installed irrigation system (32.95€).

sprinkling area

Depending on the size of your lawn, the sprinkler should have a specific range. Before comparing and buying, you should measure your lawn if you don't already know the square footage. However, this value is not the only decisive factor. You also need to factor in the water pressure from your tap or garden pump. The lower the pressure, the higher the maximum sprinkling area of the sprinkler should be to still ensure good garden irrigation.

Gardena Classic 6-area sprinkler Boogie: Lawn sprinkler for 6 different area shapes (circle, semicircle, square, rectangle, ellipse, point jet), easy to use, secure stand (2073-20)

Throw distance and blast width

The throwing distance and the spray width of a lawn sprinkler naturally influence the maximum irrigation area. But they are also interesting per se, especially if you also want to use the sprinkler as a sector sprinkler - i.e. only want to water certain areas within your garden with the device. At best, the sprinkler offers a wide spectrum from low minimum throw distances and widths to very large maximum throw distances and widths. Three to about 15 meters is good.

adjustability

It is best if the water sprinkler can be adjusted comprehensively and steplessly. In addition to the spray width and spray width as well as individual sectors (only one side of the garden or both, a full circle or just a semi-circle, etc.), you should also be able to determine the amount of water. This would allow you to consciously save water, which the environment and your wallet would certainly not object to.

material

Modern lawn sprinklers (€26.95) are usually made of plastic. Be sure to check its UV resistance and breaking strength. Pop-up sprinklers must also be frost-proof so that they are not damaged in winter. If a water sprinkler has components made of stainless steel, you can rate this as a quality feature.

Assembly

"Ordinary" circle and square sprinklers are easy to place on their feet or over the ground spike on the lawn. Then connect the garden hose to the water sprinkler and water source. The pop-up sprinklers are more difficult to install. To do this, you must lay (or have) an underground line. On the other hand, once the system has been installed, it can stay that way (as long as it works). With normal sprinklers, on the other hand, there is regular assembly and disassembly work.

frequently asked Questions

What is a water sprinkler?

A water sprinkler automatically waters your lawn. This saves you valuable time and energy - and your green areas are watered more evenly than a person could ever manage with a garden hose. There are different types of lawn sprinklers. All have nozzles from which the water sprays or jets.

How does a water sprinkler work?

You connect the water sprinkler to a garden hose, which in turn connects to the water source (tap, pump). The spring pumps the water under pressure through the hose to the sprinkler - it exits through the nozzles and waters the lawn and/or plants. You can usually fine-tune exactly how you want the lawn sprinkler to work. Integrated gears allow the sprinkler head to rotate or pivot.

Which brands offer good water sprinklers?

Gardena is the market leader in the field of water sprinklers. The German manufacturer has numerous models on offer, so that there is a suitable version for every need. Other popular brands include Grüntek, Karcher and Hunter, as well as Rain Bird and Bradas.

Where is the best place to buy a water sprinkler?

Water sprinklers are available in all garden centers and also in many hardware stores. If you want a very large selection and a comfortable purchase and return procedure, you are once again at the right place at Amazon.

How much does a water sprinkler cost?

Inexpensive water sprinklers are available from around 15 euros. Most models from well-known brands cost between 20 and 40 euros. Accordingly, these are relatively cheap garden helpers. Garden irrigation can be significantly more expensive if you want an underground pipe system and/or automated irrigation with an irrigation computer.

equipment

garden hose

To use a water sprinkler, you need a garden hose. Its thread should be compatible with those of the sprinkler and faucet or pump. You also have to make sure that it is long enough and of high quality, i.e. that it can withstand various weather conditions.

our recommendation

watering computer

By connecting an irrigation computer between the hose and the water source, you automate the irrigation. Depending on the model, you can program the computer in more or less detail - in terms of start time, watering duration and other features. The computer then controls the sprinkling according to your specifications.
